Craft distilling is a fast-growing industry both in St. Louis and across the nation. To celebrate all that’s going on at a local level, the St. Louis and Midwest Craft Distillers is hosting the second annual St. Louis Classic Cocktail Party. Benefitting the Arts Council of Lafayette Square! With Pinckney Bend Distillery, StilL 630 Distillery, Crown Valley Brewing & Distilling, Square One Brewery & Distillery’s Spirits of St. Louis, The Big O, Mastermind Vodka Inc., & Cardinal Sin Vodka!

Each participating distillery will feature special cocktails to showcase their spirits at the festival on Sat., Sept. 7, from 6 to 9pm in Lafayette Square Park near the gazebo.

Join the Lafayette Square neighborhood and business district as the first leg of the Staenberg Group Gateway Cup gets underway Friday, August 30. Situated in St. Louis’ first historic district, this nighttime Criterium will take place under the lights on a flat, wide-open 0.9-mile course with four 90-degree turns.

Now home to many unique shops and restaurants, the Lafayette Square neighborhood is one of the oldest in St. Louis and boasts the city’s first public park. Created by ordinance in 1836, the park was named in honor of Marqis de Lafayette, a French statesman who served as a volunteer under George Washington during the American Revolution.

LaFayette Square Free Concert & Movie – July 20 6:30 pm July 19, 2013

Lafayette Square’s Concert and Movie series continues on Saturday, July 20 with a performance by the United States Air Force Hot Brass Band followed by a showing of “Back to the Future”. Hot Brass is an energetic and multi-talented group of musicians performing billboard and popular music hits, new and old. Because of the versatility of this high-powered ensemble, their performances are always in high demand.
Pre-movie activities begin at 6:30 pm and will include games, arts and crafts, and speakers. A photo exhibit will feature Lafayette Park—the oldest city park west of the Mississippi—over the last 125 years. “Back to the Future” will be shown at approximately 8:30 pm. Hope to see you then!

Recycle those Christmas Trees (City Residents) January 3, 2013

Free Christmas Tree RecyclingSt. Louis City Forestry Dept is
offering free tree recycling at three locations
throughout the city.

Trees can be dropped off at:

Forest Park -Lower Muny Opera parking lot

O’Fallon Park -West Florissant and Holly,

picnic grounds #4Carondelet Park – Grand and Holly Hills, area between gate & recycling containers

Trees will be accepted at these park sites from Thurs, Dec 27, 2012
through Fri, Jan. 11, 2013. The trees will be ground into mulch and
available free to St. Louis residents.  The mulch can be picked up at
these same sites.

Trees must be free of ALL decorations. Please remove the ornaments,
tinsel, lights and tree stand. Do NOT put the tree in a plastic bag or
cover it. Wreaths and pine roping are not accepted at the sites.

City residents should NOT place Christmas trees in alley dumpsters. The Refuse Division will collect them as part of its regular monthly bulk pickup program.

Tour Information

The Lafayette Square Holiday Parlor Tour is a self-guided walking tour. Please allow 2-3 hours to tour every destination. Homes will be open from 10am-5pm. The tour begins in the Park House located inside Lafayette Park near the corner of Lafayette and Mississippi Avenues. Parking is available surrounding Lafayette Park and on adjacent streets. Neighborhood restaurants will be open. Proceeds benefit the Lafayette Square Restoration Committee. The tour will not be canceled or rescheduled.

Tickets

Tickets cost $15 through December 8 and $20 on the day of the tour. Groups of 20+ cost $12 each. Children under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets are non-refundable. Advance Tickets will not be mailed to your home; your name will be put on the reservation list at the ticket booth at the corner of Lafayette and Mississippi Avenues. The tour begins at this location.
