The Grand bridge over I-44 in St. Louis City is old. Built in 1969, the bridge is one of a few remaining bridges along I-44 that are below the standard height for bridges over an interstate. The bridge is deteriorated and needs to be replaced.
This summer, MoDOT will remove, raise and replace the Grand bridge over I-44 in three stages. During the work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction on Grand. Construction will start in June, with all driving lanes reopen by the end of the year. Some work that doesn’t impact the driving lanes will be completed in spring 2017.
During construction, at least one lane will remain open in each direction. Grand will not be completely closed. Drivers will not be able to make a left turn at the bridge – that means southbound drivers will not be able to access eastbound I-44 and northbound drivers will not be able to turn onto the westbound I-44 ramp. There will be short periods when drivers will not be able to make right turns from Grand onto the interstate.
When the bridge construction is complete, drivers will have two northbound and two southbound lanes, and a dedicated left turn lane. In addition, cyclists will have a dedicated lane along the bridge in both directions. Pedestrians will have a sidewalk on each side, as well.
The department will continue to take comments on the potential impacts of the project until Monday, March 21.

Drawing their name and inspiration from the original St. Louis team that included a young player named Cy Young, the St. Louis Perfectos bring the past alive in matches that are free to the public. Join them, along with The Greater St. Louis Base Ball Historical Society, as they host a fun-filled festival on the first weekend in June in conjunction with the Lafayette Home & Garden Tour.
Volunteer players, dressed in authentic uniforms and using a hand-stitched base ball, play strictly by 1860’s rules. Catches are made barehanded. A bell at home plate is rung each time a runner scores. You’ll hear language from days gone by, such as “Well hit, sir!” at the crack of the bat, and “Leg it! Leg it!” as runners round the bases. And of course, “Huzzah!” – The equivalent of our modern-day “hoorah!”
Spectators, called “cranks” in 1860-vernacular, enjoy player introductions at the beginning of each game. Keeping with tradition, each player has his or her own nickname. With a tip of the cap, you’ll meet Licorice Whip, Sting, Crazy Legs, Tree Knocker, Cowgirl, Home Run, Doc, Moose, and Five-Finger, to name a few.
The festival is named in honor of St. Louis native Judge Shepard Barclay, an avid sports enthusiast and skilled pitcher who played in local amateur clubs in the 1860’s. Quoted inThe Spirit of St. Louis – A History of the St. Louis Cardinals and Browns, Barclay recalls Lafayette Park as the locale where St. Louis youngsters first learned “the modern game of base ball.”
The Perfectos, the Lafayette Square Cyclones, and their rival teams from Missouri and beyond, capture the spirit of a wonderful era in vintage base ball (as it was spelled and played in the 1860’s). Teams that have participated in the festival in previous years include the St. Louis Unions, the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings, the Indianapolis Blues, the Rock Springs Ground Squirrels, and the Mackville Mudcats.

She has one mesmerizing, high-energy stage presence. Add it up and you get only one person – Dawn Weber. The St. Louis-based artist has a background that includes extensive training in both classical trumpet and flugelhorn as well as jazz. Weber’s style ranges from jazz, rock, R&B, swing, and salsa to hip-hop, electronic, and funk. Weber was a member of popular St. Louis bands Vargas Swing, Urban Jazz Naturals and Mo and Dawn (The Remix Project) and is currently leading her own bands, including the Electro Funk Assembly, Dawn: Unplugged, and Naked Rock Fight.

The gap between “drummer” and “percussionist” can often seem vast. It’s one thing to keep a beat; it’s quite another to paint a rhythmic picture with drums, melodic percussion and other sundry items that, in the right hands, can add new dimensions to a song. Local musician Joe Pastor is a capital-p Percussionist: He can certainly keep a groove on the drum kit, as he has done for everyone from jazz and blues players to performers in Branson stage shows. But his dexterity on the vibraphone makes Pastor a rhythmic secret weapon, and Pastor’s compositions draw on jazz traditions as well as avant-garde and classical tropes. ~Riverfront Times

Jeremiah is home. Though you can taste the Texas in his guitar style, Jeremiah also blends his rich St. Louis blues heritage and early music influences into the mix, giving you a blues-rock sound that rips at your soul and soothes your spirit.
Miss Jubilee has been entertaining audiences around St. Louis and beyond since the beginning of 2007 with their exciting blend of authentic Hot Jazz, Swing, Rhythm & Blues and R’n’R spanning the 1920’s-1950’s.
