38th Annual YMCA Book Fair August 19-23, 2016 @Greensfelder Recreation Complex/Queeny Park August 14, 2016

 

The Book Fair will return to the Greensfelder Recreation Complex, in Queeny Park, in the near-west suburb of Ballwin, Missouri, at 550 Wiedman Road St Louis  MO 63011.

The YMCA began accepting donations of books, audio CD’s, DVD’s and LP vinyl records on March 1, 2016.  We also accept magazines, most beneficial are magazines about automobilies/mechanics, comics, cooking, history, hobbies (i.e. woodworking, model railroading, model airplanes, crafts, etc.), and any others are most welcome.

You will be able to drop off your donations to any of our YMCA locations in metro St. Louis, if you have a large donation of books, please contact our YMCA Community Literacy offices to schedule a drop off, 314.776.7102.

NFL Punt, Pass & Kick (Free) for kids 6-15 on 8/26/15 5pm @ Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex August 12, 2015

Join us for the NFL Punt, Pass & Kick (PP&K) national skills competition for boys and girls between the ages of 6-15 on August 26 at 5:00 pm at the Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex!  Participants compete separately against their peers in punting, passing and place-kicking in a fun and engaging forum! Registrations will begin at 5:30 pm onsite, but if you plan to attend please call to sign up at 636.391.6326.
The PP&K program is FREE for participants and will take place at Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex.  The rain date is schedule for August 27.  This event will be held in cooperation with the City of Ballwin Parks & Recreation, the City of Des Peres Parks & Recreation, the City of Ellisville Parks & Recreation, and the City of Manchester Parks & Recreation.

BEST SLEDDING SPOTS IN ST LOUIS COUNTY!

With the weather turning colder and the parks now “winterized,” it’s easy to just want to stay inside and sit on the couch. But winter in your St. Louis County Parks is anything but boring.

The Parks department offers a wide variety of events and activities for you and your family to participate in to stay active and healthy.

Sledding is a fun activity for kids and adults.  Some of the best hills in the County can be found at:

Sioux Passage

Endicott Park in North County

Suson Park in South County

The scenic circle at Jefferson Barracks Park

The hill behind the Greensfelder Recreation Complex at Queeny Park.

Sled riding is permitted in all St. Louis County Parks except for Lone Elk, Veterans Memorial and Kennedy.

Though sledding can be a great deal of fun, it’s important to take a few safety precautions in order to make sure the adventure isn’t tainted by injury:

• ·         Be sure to bundle up and wear clothing that is waterproof and warm.
• ·         Don’t go alone – make sure there is another person, preferably another adult who could administer first aid and call 911 if necessary.
• ·         Always sit face-forward on the sled and don’t go down the hill face-first, this greatly increases the risk of a head injury.
• ·         There should only be one person per sled with the exception of kids five and under who should sled with an adult.
• ·         Leave plenty of space between you and the sledder in front of you and when walking back up, walk up the side of the hill.
